Taipei City is going to organize Velo-City Global 2016 the end of next February. Founder of the annual bike-related event, the European Cyclists' Federation, chose Taipei as the organizer of next year’s event.
The event will take place from February 27 to March 1 next year with the theme being “Evolution of Cycling”, and will feature Taipei’s famous bike rental system, YouBike.
Deputy Taipei Mayor Chou Li-Fang said that eco-friendly Taipei has become an excellent example for the international community. She said it is an honor for Taipei and also Taiwan to be able to organize the event.
In order to promote the event, Taipei City is inviting residents to bike around the city on October 31.
Velo-city conferences began in 1980 in Bremen, Germany. Since then, Velo-city events have been held in cities including Copenhagen, Brussels, Barcelona and Montreal. Conferences usually attract about 1,000 delegates.
