Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) will hold talks with its Chinese counterpart mid-October. That was the word from MAC Minister Andrew Hsia during a legislative hearing on Thursday.

Hsia said he will meet the minister of China's Taiwan Affairs Office, Zhang Zhijun, in China on October 13. The two plan to discuss the possibility of allowing Chinese travelers to make connecting flights in Taiwan.

"We could allow Mainland travelers to transfer through Taiwan right away. We hope we come to a consensus on the issue, and allow transfers for Mainland travelers soon," Hsia said. "We will also work hard to improve cross-strait flight routes, and will hopefully reach a consensus soon."
