Secretary-General of the National Security Council Kao Hua-chu says that Taiwan hopes controversial security bills recently passed in Japan will be beneficial for regional peace.
Kao was responding to lawmakers’ questions at the legislature on Thursday. Kao said that the bills do not run counter to President Ma Ying-jeou’s East China Sea Peace Initiative as they do not touch on the issue of sovereignty in disputed areas of the East China Sea. Kao said that due to a bilateral fisheries agreement, Japan’s new security bills will not affect the sharing of resources envisioned in Ma’s peace initiative either.
