More than 16,000 independent Chinese travelers arrived in Taiwan on Thursday, the first day of China’s national day “Golden Week” vacation. That’s an increase of 2,000 visitors over the same day last year.
Mainland China’s “Golden Week” is a weeklong vacation that begins with China’s National Day on October 1. The holiday is a popular time for Chinese tourists to visit Taiwan. This includes independent travelers, Chinese nationals visiting Taiwan without signing up for a group tour.
According to Taiwan’s National Immigration Agency, the number of independent Chinese visitors had already reached 12,000 on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the number of Chinese visitors on group tours has reached 8,000 this year, up from 7,000 last year. The National Immigration Agency says that the total number of Chinese travelers visiting Taiwan was 80,000 over last year’s Golden Week holiday. Judging from the latest data, Taiwan can expect to see even more Chinese visitors this year.
