Seven of Taiwan’s diplomatic allies spoke on behalf of Taiwan at the 70th United Nations General Debates on Friday.

Representatives of Burkina Faso, Saint Lucia, Kiribati, Tuvalu, St. Kitts and Nevis, Belize, and Sao Tome and Principe all voiced their support for Taiwan at the debates. Representatives of Belize and St. Kitts and Nevis added praise for Taiwan’s efforts to ease cross-strait tension and voiced their support for Taiwan’s bid to join international organizations under the framework of the United Nations.

Prime Minister Timothy Harris of Saint Kitts and Nevis urged the international community to pay attention to the contributions Taiwan has made in the areas of international cooperation, health, technology, peace, and security.

Belize’s Foreign Minister Wilfred Elrington meanwhile urged the UN to extend membership to Taiwan.
