Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Tsai Ing-wen is visiting Japan. She told the House of Representatives on Tuesday that she hopes Japan will help Taiwan to join the next round of talks for the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP).

Tsai led a DPP delegation on Tuesday on a 4-day visit to Japan. Twenty five members of Japan’s House of Representatives met with Tsai on Tuesday including Seishiro Eto, Akiko Santo, and Kunio Hatoyama.

She told them that Taiwan, and especially the DPP, values its ties with Japan. Taiwan hopes to work with Japan to maintain peace in the Asia Pacific. She also hopes to strengthen trade with Japan.

The Japanese politicians wished Tsai the best in the elections and said they hoped the next time they see her, they would be congratulating her on her win.

On Wednesday, she will fly to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s hometown Yamaguchi where Abe’s brother Diet member Nobuo Kishi will take her on a tour.
