Hundreds attend National Day celebrations in Chicago

Taipei’s representative office in Chicago hosted a National Day celebration on Tuesday evening. The more than 600 attendees included many US state senators and representatives.

During the event, Calvin Ho, Director of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Chicago said US-Taiwan relations are strong. He said that relations between the two sides are based on the common values of democracy, freedom and respect for human rights. He also highlighted the high volume of bilateral trade and cooperation in fields such as education and high technology.

Ho also highlighted Taiwan’s role on the international stage as peacemaker. He cited President Ma Ying-jeou’s South China Sea Peace Initiative as an example of how Taiwan is working to help resolve disputes and work with other nations to maintain peace in the region.
