The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has called for German carmaker Volkswagen to provide Taiwanese consumers with a fix for faulty emissions software.
Volkswagen is at the center of a scandal after it emerged that the company installed software in some of its cars designed to help them cheat at emissions tests.
On Monday, one EPA official said that Volkswagen will be presenting its proposals for fixing problems with emissions to the German government. The official said that once German officials approve the proposals, Taiwan’s government will assemble a team of experts to examine their feasibility.
In addition, the official said that the government will require Volkswagen to provide Taiwanese customers with a fix. According to the official, the government may also require Volkswagen to give monetary compensation to Taiwanese customers impacted by the emissions scandal.
