Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) Minister Andrew Hsia has arrived in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou for the fourth round of cross-strait talks.
Hsia arrived Tuesday afternoon in preparation for a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Zhang Zhijun the following day. Zhang is the head of China’s Taiwan Affairs Office.
Hsia said he hopes that high-level cross-strait talks will continue as the practice has been institutionalized and that it will help enhance cross-strait peace and stability. Hsia also called for deepening of cross-strait relations.
The goals of the meeting include reviewing cross-strait ties and examining the implementation of existing agreements.
It is Hsia’s first trip to China as MAC minister.
