KMT Chairman calls for party unity as meeting on replacing Hung approaches
I'm sorry

KMT Chairman Eric Chu is calling for unity within the KMT ranks days ahead of a decision on replacing the party’s presidential candidate Hung Hsiu-chu.

On Wednesday, Chu apologized to party members for what he called his inadequate efforts and insufficient communication. Chu said that both sentiment at the grassroots level and polling results show that the KMT must make a new start. However, Chu also said that the party must make a decision at the extraordinary party meeting on Saturday that will decide the fate of Hung’s candidacy.

Chu said that as the party’s chairman, he cannot watch the KMT fade into history. He said that the party’s enemy is not within the party itself and called for renewed solidarity after the party decides whether to replace Hung as presidential candidate. The presidential election is scheduled for January 16.
