Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) Minister Andrew Hsia has reaffirmed the importance of the relations between Taiwan and China. He was speaking on Thursday, the third day of a four-day trip to China.
Hsia, who is Taiwan’s top China policymaker, met with his Chinese counterpart Zhang Zhijun on Wednesday. Zhang is the head of China’s Taiwan Affairs Office.
On Thursday, Hsia reiterated the importance of cross-strait relations, saying it won’t be his last meeting with Zhang. He also encouraged people to be positive about the development of ties between Taiwan and China.
Minister Hsia later called for more official interaction between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait in order to bolster mutual understanding.
Earlier on Thursday, Hsia met with Taiwanese businesspeople in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong. In a panel discussion in the city of Dongguan, Hsia said the government supports and cares about Taiwanese business interests in China. He responded to concerns raised at the panel, saying he would do what he could to address them.
