A representative from Taiwan has been invited to the first Islamic leaders’ conference of the Asia Pacific region. The event took place from Tuesday through Friday in Istanbul, Turkey. The head of Taiwan’s Chinese Muslim Association Chang Ming-chun was in attendance.
During the event, Chang discussed the current state of Taiwan’s Muslim community. Chang covered topics including the certification of Halal food in Taiwan, Taiwan’s Halal industry and the promotion of Taiwanese tourism to Muslims in other countries. Taiwan was one of the top 10 most popular destinations for Muslim travelers in 2015. Chang also talked about the shortage of mosques for believers in Taiwan.
125 religious leaders representing 37 countries attended the conference. The conference covered topics including Islamic education, religious cooperation, and the rights of minority Muslim populations.
