CWB pushes back prediction for Typhoon Koppu's approach towards Taiwan
Typhoon Koppu

The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) is pushing back its prediction for Typhoon Koppu's approach towards Taiwan. The typhoon is currently moving slowly towards the Philippine island of Luzon.

The CWB said as of Saturday afternoon, Koppu was centered around 760 kilometers to the southeast of Taiwan's southern tip, moving towards the Philippines at 10 kilometers per hour.

CWB forecaster Lin Ding-yi said Saturday that the storm's slow pace is due to weak air flow. She said it’s possible that Koppu will still be hovering over Luzon Tuesday as opposed to Sunday as predicted earlier.

Lin also said it’s possible that Koppu will either move towards Taiwan’s eastern coast or China’s southern Guangdong province. She said the chances of the CWB issuing a sea warning will greatly increase if the typhoon moves towards eastern Taiwan.
