President Ma Ying-jeou spoke on Tuesday about how the Republic of China is a peace-loving nation. He was speaking to foreign guests during a victory celebration of the Second Sino-Japanese War. The Republic of China is Taiwan’s official name.
President Ma met with Montana Governor Steve Bullock and Nikolai Chuikov, the grandson of a former Soviet Union official who aided the Chinese Army during World War II.
Ma said he invited the guests on the 70th anniversary of the Second Sino-Japanese War to express Taiwan’s support for peace.
“We would like to express that the Republic of China has long been a peace-loving country. We respect history and hold the deepest gratitude to those who helped us in times of war,” said Ma.
President Ma awarded a medal to Nikolai Chuikov to honor the contribution of his grandfather Vasily Chuikov. Vasily was a military consultant for the Chinese Army during the Second Sino-Japanese War.
