President Ma promotes ICT industry to boost Taiwan’s economy

President Ma Ying-jeou spoke about Taiwan’s need to further develop its Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry to boost the economy. He was speaking Wednesday at the Global Views Business Forum in Taipei.

Ma highlighted Taiwan’s technological achievements that have gained international recognition in recent years. These include Electronic Transaction Clearing (ECT), high speed rail, and Youbike. They’ve also helped Taiwan gain a sizeable share of the international market.

Ma also said that the government has chosen to support the ten ICT industries with the most potential.

“In order to boost exports and better adapt to economic changes, we need to further integrate industry output and its management system," said Ma.  "A more systemized product and service platform should take over as the new export model over the old intermediate goods-focused one.”

The president also said that Taiwan’s good investment climate and safe environment have gained a positive image worldwide.
