The economics ministry has announced its timeline for replacing lead piping in Taiwan’s water supply systems.

During an interview on Thursday, Vice Economics Minister Yang Wei-fu said that lead piping in Taipei’s water system should be fully replaced within three years. Yang also said that lead pipes in Yilan County will be replaced before the end of next year. Lead pipes in Miaoli City in Taiwan’s northwest and Hualien City on the east coast will be replaced in the next few months.

According to Yang, 36,000 households in Taiwan receive their water through lead pipes, with 30,000 of them in Taipei alone.
