Acclaimed Taiwanese martial arts movie “The Assassin” is being shown around the United States.
The movie will be shown for two weeks at the Landmark Theatres in Washington DC starting Friday. The theater’s official website says that the film is “more than beautiful”. The film has earned Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-hsien the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival.
Hou visited the US earlier in October, and The Assassin was shown at major cities in the US, including Chicago, New York, Miami, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
The film is set during China’s Tang Dynasty. A general’s daughter is taken away by a nun and trained to become an assassin. Thirteen years later, she arrives back in her hometown to kill the man who was her lover.
