Taiwan's Hsieh Su-wei won the ITF Tour Challenger Tennis women's singles title in Nanjing, China, on Sunday. She beat Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 6-2 to clinch the win.

Hsieh battled her younger rival for three hours and nine minutes to win the match, which carried a total prize of US$100,000.

Her win follows a setback for Taiwanese tennis duo and sisters Chan Yung-jan and Chan Hao-ching on Saturday. The duo lost to top-seeded Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza in the women’s doubles semifinals at the WTA Finals in Singapore in two sets 4-6, 2-6. Hingis and Mirza secured the year-end No. 1 doubles ranking, having won eight titles this year, including Grand Slam crowns at Wimbledon and the US Open.

Meanwhile in women's golf, LPGA Tour veteran Candie Kung of Taiwan lost to South Korean rookie Sei Young Kim to tie for second place with two US golfers Sunday in the final round of the Blue Bay LPGA tournament in China's Hainan Province.

Kim claimed the Blue Bay LPGA title by one stroke over Kung, Kim Kaufman and Stacy Lewis, after shooting a two-under 70 in the final round for a four-round total of 2-under 286.
