The Central Epidemic Command Center has reported that on Saturday there were 214 new cases of dengue fever in the southern city of Kaohsiung. That’s an increase of 30 cases over the number reported last Saturday.

In comparison, the city of Tainan, which was once the epicenter of this year’s outbreak in Taiwan, only saw 56 new cases reported on Saturday, a drop of 35 cases from the previous Saturday. Officials say that this shows the outbreak in Tainan is now under control.

The number of indigenous dengue fever infections reported in Taiwan since the start of May reached 29,329 as of Oct. 31. Nearly 75% of those cases were in Tainan, with 25% in Kaohsiung.

Dengue fever has been confirmed as the cause of 129 deaths in Taiwan this year. There are still 30 patients in intensive care and another 24 people are thought to have died from the disease.

Officials put the recovery rate for this year’s strain of dengue fever at just over 92%.
