Taiwan shares closed 1.14% higher. The TAIEX rose 98.42 points at 8,713.19. Dealers said the shares closed above the 8,700 point mark Tuesday as large-cap stocks across the board made a strong showing amid hopes that the legislature will soon pass a bill to revise the capital gains tax.
