Taiwan’s central bank is set to issue commemorative coins to mark the 150th birthday anniversary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the founding father of the Republic of China (ROC). The Republic of China is Taiwan’s official name.
The bank said on Tuesday that a limited edition of 38,000 silver coins will be issued on Sun’s birthday, which is November 12th. Each coin costs about US$50 though its face value is only about US$3.
The last time the central bank issued coins in honor of Sun was thirty years ago in 1985.
The front of the coin features Taiwan’s national flag and Sun’s portrait. The upper part of the back side has images of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall and Taiwan’s national flower, the plum blossom. The lower part of the coin features Sun’s laser-engraved calligraphy work.
