The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said on Tuesday that dengue fever is still spreading in Kaohsiung and shows no sign of slowing down.
The CDC said the number of new dengue fever cases in Kaohsiung saw a 30% increase last week compared to the week before. The new cases are mostly found in the districts of Fongshan, Lingya, Sanmin and Cianjhen. The city of Tainan, on the other hand, saw a drop in new dengue fever cases, with fewer than 100 new cases found per day.
The southern cities of Tainan and Kaohsiung have seen the vast majority of dengue cases in Taiwan. They account respectively for 73% and 25% of the total number of cases in Taiwan.
The CDC will publish maps that contain the geographic distribution of dengue fever cases. The data will allow the public to be aware of the latest dengue fever situation in their vicinity and take effective preventative measures.
The CDC advises citizens who live in crowded areas not to panic since the fever is not transmitted by air. The most effective measure is to clean and dry up all indoor and outdoor containers, and to avoid mosquitoes.
