Vice President Wu Den-yih says that cooperation between the public and private sectors is the reason for the rapid growth of Taiwan’s tourism industry。
Wu was speaking Friday at the opening ceremony of the 2015 Taipei International Travel Fair.
“The United Nations World Tourism Organization announced that Taiwan’s tourism growth rate was 23.63% in 2014. Revenue raked in from tourism grew by 18.9%," said Wu. "This first figure puts Taiwan in second place in the world, only trailing behind Japan. This means that growth in the number of tourist arrivals to Taiwan was second only to Japan. Growth in the amount revenue raked in from tourism has increased, putting Taiwan in fourth place.”
Wu said the number of tourists visiting Taiwan broke the three million mark in 2005. He said that with warming cross-strait ties under the Ma administration, that number later grew from 3.9 million in 2008 to 9.9 million last year.
Wu said that CNN has rated Taiwan’s cuisine as the world’s best, while a US website has commended Taiwan as the world’s second safest destination, second only to Japan.
