KMT presidential candidate Eric Chu and KMT Secretary General Lee Si-chuan were found not guilty of violating election law.
DPP legislator Chen Ting-fei and Taiwan Solidarity Union legislator Chou Ni-an filed two separate complaints to the supreme court. They both accused Chu of violating the Presidential and Vice Presidential Election and Recall Act and offering a bribe to then KMT presidential candidate Hung Hsiu-chu to persuade her to withdraw from the race.
The Special Investigation Division (SID) summoned Chu and KMT Secretary General Lee Si-chuan to answer questions about the matter. The SID concluded that the US$30 million offered to Hung was meant to be the KMT financial aid for her presidential campaign.
Taipei District head prosecutor Chang Chieh-chin said on Thursday that the charge was dismissed due to insufficient evidence.
