President Ma Ying-jeou has outlined the results of his meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
During an international press conference held after the meeting, Ma said that the Chinese leader has agreed to discuss issues including the inclusion of Taiwan in regional economic integration. Ma also said Xi has agreed to establish an emergency hotline between Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council and China’s Taiwan Affairs Office.
Ma said that there are not yet any plans to invite Xi Jinping to visit Taiwan. He also said that the two sides will need to hold discussions and continue working on cross-strait issues before a second Ma-Xi meeting can take place.
Ma said that his meeting with Xi has helped to create a stable framework for developing cross-strait relations, which future presidents of the Republic of China can use as a basis for cross-strait peace.
