Tainan’s health bureau said on Tuesday the number of new dengue fever cases in the city have been decreasing. The figure has already dropped to less than 50 new cases a day for three days straight.
There were 33 new cases reported on Monday. That brought the total of cases in Tainan to 22,195. The epidemic is slowing down in the epicenter, but is still at its peak in neighboring Kaohsiung. The number of new cases recorded in Kaohsiung was 195 which brought the total to 9,219 on Monday.
As of Monday evening, there were 31,995 cases of dengue fever since May 1 in Taiwan. The two southern cities have been the worst hit with the disease. The outbreak has led to 141 deaths since May and 30 other deaths are suspected of being linked to the disease.
