Ruling Kuomintang (KMT)’s presidential candidate Eric Chu is leaving for the United States Tuesday night. Chu said the purpose of the trip is to exchange views on Taiwan-US relations and cross-strait relations. He believes the US will ask about the recent meeting between the leaders of Taiwan and China. He said he will let the US understand the KMT’s point of view. Chu did not reveal who he will be meeting in the US.

Chu’s seven-day trip includes stays in Los Angeles, Washington DC, New York and San Francisco. While in Washington DC, Chu will visit the White House, US State Department and the US Department of Defense.

At a meeting with visiting US Congressman Matt Salmon Tuesday, Chu said the main purpose of his trip will be to speak on Taiwan-US relations.

"I will mainly express to the US the importance of Taiwan-US relations and future cooperation between the US and Taiwan," said Chu.

"Of course we will also touch on cross-strait relations. We will definitely be one to maintain peace and stability. We will also exchange views on recent issues concerning cross-strait relations.”

Chu said Salmon said the US is very pleased with the Ma-Xi meeting and it was a milestone in the peaceful development of cross-strait relations.
