Ruling Kuomintang (KMT)’s presidential candidate Eric Chu has called for solidarity within the ranks of his party.
Chu was speaking during a banquet held Wednesday, local time, in Washington DC, where he met with representatives of the local Taiwanese community. In his remarks, Chu said that the KMT has reached a critical point.
“During its time in power," said Chu, "the KMT has made mistakes and has taken the wrong path, but we have reflected and we have reviewed [our mistakes]. We need to always have the public opinion in mind. Meanwhile, we stand with all the people. We work together to achieve peace, prosperity, and stability.”
Chu also said he is very thankful for the previous presidential candidate Hung Hsiu-chu for her support. He said Hung will visit Washington DC to thank the area’s Taiwanese community.
