Premier Mao Chi-kuo says that Saturday’s meeting between President Ma Ying-jeou and Chinese leader Xi Jinping has helped solidify cross-strait peace and the cross-strait status quo.
Mao was speaking at the cabinet on Thursday. During his remarks Mao said that the meeting has demonstrated the existence of the Republic of China. The Republic of China is Taiwan’s official name. Mao also said that the meeting was a success in that the Mainland side responded positively to concerns about cross-strait issues raised by President Ma Ying-jeou.
Mao said that the meeting will be beneficial to the institutionalization of cross-strait ties. He called on the Mainland Affairs Council to consolidate the results of the Ma-Xi meeting.
