President Ma Ying-jeou has held a meeting with the Vice President of the Czech Senate, Premysl Sobotka.
During the meeting on Friday, the President said he hopes to see Taiwan and the Czech Republic conclude a double taxation avoidance agreement. Ma said that the Czech Republic is one of Taiwan’s biggest trade partners in Central Europe, and such an agreement would encourage Taiwanese businesses to invest in the Czech Republic.
Ma praised the state of Taiwan-Czech Republic relations. He said that the two sides have signed eight memoranda of understanding in areas including e-government and innovating research and development.
Ma also said that the Czech Republic will join the growing list of European countries that have signed working holiday agreements with Taiwan.
