Taiwan lost to Canada 8-9 in an opening round match at the World Baseball Softball Confederation’s Premier 12. The match was held Thursday in Taichung, central Taiwan.
Premier 12 is the flagship international baseball tournament, featuring the twelve best ranked national baseball teams in the world. The 12 nations participating are Cuba, Taiwan, the Netherlands, Canada, Puerto Rico, Italy, Japan, South Korea, the United States, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and Mexico.
The Taiwanese team started off by scoring two runs in the second inning. But the Canadian team caught up by scoring one run in the third inning and three more runs in the fourth inning. The Canadians led all the way to the end of the game. The Taiwanese swung 12 hits with three homeruns while the Canadians made a total of 13 hits with two homeruns.
As of Thursday, Canada is leading the Group A matches, with three wins and no losses, while Taiwan is tied with Puerto Rico with two wins and one loss.
