Premier Mao Chi-kuo on Sunday condemned the terrorist attacks which rocked Paris on Friday night, killing at least 129 people and injuring some 350 others. Mao was speaking at the opening of a campaign office for a ruling party legislative candidate when he made the remarks.
The premier said that the government’s priority was assuring the safety of Taiwanese citizens in Paris. So far there have been no reports of Taiwanese victims.
Taiwan has elevated the travel alert for Paris to “yellow”, the second level in a four-color system. The premier said that Taiwan’s government has also strengthened security at the nation’s borders.
When asked by a reporter if the government would evacuate Taiwanese citizens, Mao said that there were no plans to do so, but that the government was monitoring the situation.
