Wang says Taiwan should strengthen the national security law
Legislature President Wang Jin-pyng

Legislature President Wang Jin-pyng says the government should consider revising or strengthening Taiwan’s national security law. He was speaking on Monday, following last Friday’s terror attacks in Paris, which left at least 129 people dead.

Wang said that while the national security law covers personal protection, revisions are needed to make the legislation more complete.

“The fight against terrorism and the protection of meeting places and major government agencies are not included in the national security law," said Wang.

"[We] should consider changing the law.”

Wang said Taiwan has cooperated with the United States, Japan and Singapore in their fight against international terrorism. That includes the prevention of terrorist attacks, anti-drug campaigns and a crackdown on crime.

The Cabinet submitted an anti-terrorism bill to the legislature twice for review, once in 2003 and once in 2007. However, no progress has been made since then.
