KMT presidential candidate Eric Chu has chosen former labor minister Wang Ju-hsuan as his running mate.
Wang is a famous lawyer who is known for her promotion of women’s rights, as well as the rights of laborers and other disadvantaged members of society. She has championed gender equality in the workplace, and the rights of victims of domestic abuse and sexual harassment. During her time as minister of the Council of Labor Affairs, she also supported raising wages.
Chu said that if elected, he will focus on improving Taiwan’s economy, while Wang will be able to ensure the rights of society’s disadvantaged.
Meanwhile Wang said that she is grateful that Chu has given her an opportunity to further social justice in Taiwan.
"The chairman told me that the nation needs to have sustainable development, and that the economy is a very important part of this, but social justice also needs to be managed and taken care of. He believes that I can complement him in the area of social justice," said Wang, "I also believe that the people of Taiwan deserve to be treated better. I believe I have the responsibility to participate in this election so that I can work for the interests of the people."
Wang also said that she will not be a silent partner. She said if she becomes vice president, she will have three important missions: serving on the National Security Council, heading the presidential council on human rights, and heading the committee that nominates Supreme Court justices.
