Taiwan’s ambassador to Paraguay, Alexander Yui said Paraguayan students are welcome to pursue higher education in Taiwan. Yui made the remarks while meeting with Paraguayan education and culture minister Marta Lafuente on Wednesday, local time.
During the visit, Lafuente welcomed Yui to his new post as ambassador to Paraguay, and thanked Taiwan for its support of Paraguay’s housing plan and local education.
Yui said that since 2004, Taiwan has provided the Taiwan Scholarship to Paraguayan students who wish to further their studies in Taiwan. So far, a total of 264 Paraguayan students have come to Taiwan under the scholarship program. Yui said he hopes to help contribute to the training of young Paraguayan professionals.
Yui also said he is happy to learn that the Paraguayan government will send students to outstanding universities overseas to pursue higher degrees with its own Carlos Antonio Lopez scholarship.
Lafuente said she looks forward to future educational cooperation between Taiwan and Paraguay.
