Cabinet Secretary-General Chien Tai-Lang says that anti-terrorism measures are in place for the 2017 Universiade. Chien was speaking at a legislative meeting on Thursday.

He said that anti-terror measures are in place for all major events held in Taiwan. He also said that the government has also convened meetings on border security since last weekend’s attacks in Paris.

Chien said that there is a need for constant vigilance.

"Taiwan is a place with religious freedom and equality, and it is relatively free from racial conflict," Chien said. "Things aren’t as serious as we imagine, but this is still something we cannot take lightly. We have to be prepared at all times."

When asked whether current emergency response policies should be updated, Chien said the Cabinet is willing to review existing policies and consider ways of improving them.
