Taiwan has placed 23rd on this year’s IMD World Talent Report, up four places from last year. The report was released on Friday by Switzerland’s IMD (International Institute for Management Development), a global business and management institution.
In a statement Friday, Taiwan’s National Development Council (NDC) said that the placement is the result of the government’s promotion of technological education and cooperation between the business and education sectors.
Taiwan placed fourth among the Asian economies evaluated in the report, behind Singapore, Hong Kong, and Malaysia, and ahead of Japan, Korea and China. The report was based on 30 indexes, including education and job market.
Taiwan placed 11th in the IMD’s new healthy environment index. The NDC says this shows that Taiwan has adequate facilities to maintain a healthy living environment. However, Taiwan performed worse on indexes measuring pay in the service industry and in management level positions, at 31st and 35th places respectively. The NDC said it has proposed measures for improving pay.
The NDC has also come up with a proposal called “Contact Taiwan”. The proposal aims to stem Taiwan’s severe brain drain issue by recruiting global talent, improving Taiwan’s competitive environment and building a friendly environment for talent retention.
