Minkuotang Chairwoman Hsu

The Minkuotang, literally the Republic’s Party, is a political party in Taiwan. It was founded on March 13, 2015 by former Kuomintang (KMT) legislative representative Hsu Hsin-Ying.

The Minkuotang, like People’s First Party (PFP), is commonly seen as a KMT splinter party. As a result, the parties share many policies and ideologies, as well as a common voter base. That has led to a close but tense relationship between them. This year, Mingkuotang Chairwoman Hsu Hsin-Ying will run for vice president on the same ticket as the PFP presidential candidate, James Soong.

Not long after its founding in 2015, the party faced allegations that it was funded by religious causes after it was revealed that prominent Buddhist Master Wujue Miaotian is backing the party in the 2016 general election. However, Chairwoman Hsu Hsin-Ying has denied such allegations, stating that the party "belongs to the people".
