The number of dengue fever cases in Taiwan has surpassed 36,000 since this summer. That’s the word from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on Saturday. The exact number of confirmed cases is at 36,199.
Most of these cases are in the southern cities of Tainan and Kaohsiung. Tainan has had 22,510 cases and Kaohsiung has had 13,008. There were 455 new cases on Friday and most of them were in Kaoshiung. There were also 2 new deaths attributed to dengue fever on Friday bringing the total number of deaths to 158.
The CDC is focusing its prevention efforts on Kaohsiung. There’s been a fifth stage of sanitation efforts in the city and a prevention team that is teaching citizens how to guard against spread of the outbreak.
