The Kuomintang on Saturday confirmed its list of 34 candidates for legislators-at-large in the upcoming election in January. Legislative President Wang Jin-pyng tops the list.
Those on the legislator-at-large list can become lawmakers according to the number of votes received by the political party. The top 12 candidates are nearly guaranteed a seat in the legislature. There are 34 legislator-at-large seats in the legislature out of a total of 113 legislative members.
The KMT list also includes Financial Supervisory Commission Chairperson William Tseng.
KMT Chairman Eric Chu said the nominees include many outstanding people from different professions. But he said he felt sorry for those who did not make it on the list. Some have criticized the list as there was not one from the southern regions of Chiayi and Tainan.
The KMT holds 65 seats in the legislature but is in a battle to hold the majority in the upcoming election on January 16.
