Analysts are saying that the short-term outlook for solar energy, biotech and automotive electronics is bright. Biotechnology company OBI Pharma Inc surged 5.5 percent while solar wafer maker Gigastorage Corp gained 6.7 percent.
Taiwan shares closed up just 20.28 points or 0.24 percent at 8,458.73 on Monday. The plastics and chemicals sector led the gains with a rise of 1.2 percent.
