The first cross-strait film and television program exhibition is being held in Taipei Thursday through Friday.
On Thursday, former TV producer Wong War-kong said that making the exhibition a reality has taken a great deal of effort. He said that film and television companies from the two sides of the Taiwan Strait began exchanges in 1993. After more than 20 years, 24 media companies from Taiwan and China are exhibiting at what is the first ever exhibition of its kind.
Wong said that China’s digitally converged media industry is booming and Taiwan is lagging behind in this area. He said he hopes this exhibition will provide local professionals opportunities to gain hands-on experiences and explore new directions for future cooperation.
"We need to take advantage of this year’s film and television exhibition. Outside of using it as a marketing platform, I believe it is also important to figure out a way to establish a platform for learning and interaction," Wong said. "I have therfore invited many mainland experts to speak about their valuable experiences during the event. I hope our industry professionals can learn how to think and operate in media productions in the future."
The event’s opening ceremony Thursday featured the signing of multiple agreements, including an agreement on a project to adapt works of Taiwanese works of literature into TV series.
