Government makes tremendous progress in open data: Ma
Ma attended the opening ceremony of the IT Month

President Ma Ying-jeou says the government has made tremendous progress in open data. Ma was speaking Saturday in Taipei at the opening ceremony of the Information Technology (IT) Month, an annual trade show jointly held by the government and the private sector.

Ma said that the government has designated this year as the Year of Open Data with an emphasis on big data, open data and crowdsourcing.

Ma also said that Taiwan is likely to make it into the top ten places in the UK-based Open Knowledge Foundation's list of open data countries. Ma said that while the government did not open up its data early on, its decision to do so has produced successful results.

This year’s event has attracted 305 domestic and international manufacturers with more than 1,400 booths. The trade show features 4G communications, electronic payment, mobile internet, Internet of Things, multimedia, smart living applications and telematics services.

The show will run through December 6.
