Chu says he would go all out to improve economy if elected
On the campaign trail

The ruling Kuomintang’s (KMT) chairman and presidential candidate, Eric Chu, says that if he is elected in January, he will do his utmost to fix the economy. He was speaking on Sunday morning at a campaign event for a candidate in New Taipei City.

Chu said that his party – the KMT – is the party that can not only improve the economy, but also ensure cross-strait peace. He also pointed toward his own financial expertise, which he said could help him fix the economy.

Chu also deflected criticism over his running mate – Wang Ju-hsuan’s purchase of military housing units. Chu said that the DPP’s allegations and its negative campaigning would hurt Taiwan’s democracy. He said that his party – the KMT – takes a milder approach, and does not do things like taking to the streets in protest.

The media also asked Chu about whether he would invite Legislature Vice President Hung Hsiu-chu to help out with the campaign. Hung was originally the KMT’s presidential candidate, but the party later voted to replace her with Chu.

Chu said that he would visit Hung in person to extend an invitation to help with campaigning, but that it depended on Hung’s schedule.
