Economic Affairs Minister John Deng says that Taiwan welcomes Facebook’s plan to invest and set up a data center on the island.
Facebook’s representatives say that the company is currently scouting for locations in Taiwan.
During an interview on Wednesday, Deng said that Facebook is one of the top companies in the world, and that his ministry welcomes its expanded presence anywhere in Taiwan.
"A number of conditions must be met before a company like Facebook will set up a data center in Taiwan. Our legal system will have to be robust and our copyright protection must be strict. Taiwan meets both of these conditions," said Deng, "Taiwan also needs to ramp up its efforts in equipping its future talents with strong academic and professional training. There also probably won’t be any problems with power supply."
Facebook set up its first Taiwan branch in Taipei during December 2014. The branch’s projects include assisting the development and global marketing of local Facebook apps.
