No changes announced in US arms deal: Defense Minister
Defense Minister Kao Kuang-chi

Defense Minister Kao Kuang-chi  says that there have been no changes reported in a plan to purchase military equipment from the US. Kao was speaking at the legislature on Thursday.

He was responding to questions about a figure that appeared in a recent Bloomberg News article.

Bloomberg reported that the US plans to sell 12 amphibious assault vehicles (AAVs) to Taiwan. That is only a third of the number Taiwan expects to purchase.

Kao said that Taiwan has not been informed of any changes to the planned arms sale. He said that the figure presented in the Bloomberg article may be speculation.

“Our current purchase plan includes 36 AAVs," said Kao.

"The US has not given us any new information, nor have they mentioned the numbers given in the Bloomberg report. The US says it is still preparing, and will notify us of all details once the sale is finalized. We will report to the public once we have been notified. The number given in the Bloomberg article might just be their speculation. ”

Once again, that was Defense Minister Kao Kuang-chi speaking on Thursday.
