KMT presidential candidate Eric Chu has chosen former Taichung Mayor Jason Hu to be the head of his campaign office. Chu made the announcement at a press conference on Friday.
Chu said he chose Jason Hu because the two share common ideas. Chu also said Hu’s leadership and familiarity with the workings of the KMT also played a role in his decision.
Chu is still lagging far behind Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Tsai Ing-wen in opinion polls. But Jason Hu says the KMT still has a good chance of making a comeback.
“I believe that Chu will become one of the best presidents of the Republic of China. The KMT must also shoulder the responsibility and will live up to the expectations of the people. We will do our best and move forward without hesitation. That’s how I feel. I will continue working to that end and I hope that the people will be satisfied with the final results; it will be a surprise.”
The Republic of China is Taiwan’s official name.
Jason Hu said he wants to boost momentum for the KMT as the party lacks morale and is getting weaker and weaker under pressure.
