A Taiwanese delegation has won 39 gold medals, 25 silver medals, two bronze medals, and 12 special awards at the 2015 Hong Kong International Invention and Design Competition.
This was the second year that Taiwan’s delegation placed first overall in the competition.
Students from National Yunlin University of Science and Technology won one gold medal and one special award with their “baby talk translation machine.” The team collected over 100 thousand data entries and collaborated with a pediatrician to analyze the meaning of babies’ cries. The machine is supposedly able to interpret the cries of babies under 2 weeks old with a success rate as high as 92 percent.
Electric engineering students from St. John's University won a gold medal and a special award for a wearable device that enables users to turn bike lights on and off using voice control. The device is expected to improve the safety of cycling.
