Taiwan has set up a new platform that will enable Asian countries to work together on climate change. Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) Minister Wei Kuo-yen announced the establishment of the platform – the Pan Pacific Adaptation on Climate Change (PPACC) – on Sunday at COP21 in Paris.
Taiwan is attending COP, the United Nation’s most important climate conference, for the first time this year. Nearly 200 contracting parties are participating.
The Pan Pacific Adaptation on Climate Change has been two years in the making. Taiwan is working with MIT’s Climate CoLab. MIT Professor Thomas W. Malone said that in the past, the lab had only worked with countries in Europe. But he said that the high population density in Asia makes the region highly susceptible to the impacts of climate change.
Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) Minister Wei said that Taiwan has technology that can help deal with the impact of climate change. He said that the platform can enable other Asian countries to come together to find solutions to climate change.
