The foreign ministry says it believes that the US will uphold its long-term policy of supplying Taiwan with defensive weapons.
Bloomberg News recently reported about a US-to-Taiwan arms sale coming in mid-December worth US$1 billion. Foreign ministry spokesperson Eleanor Wang said the US is an important economic and security partner.
“US officials at all levels of government have stressed that the US will continue to uphold the Taiwan Relations Act and the United States’ Six Assurances to Taiwan," said Wang.
"They say the US will continue to support Taiwan in building defense capabilities, peace in the Taiwan Strait, and Taiwan’s security. We very much welcome this. We are currently optimistic that there will be an announcement regarding the arms sale soon, but we have no comment before the official announcement.”
